What will happen to Striker as her empire falls apart? Well, it doesn’t look pretty for her.
While the conclusion was predictable, there are some things about the battle that led us to a happy conclusion. First, the Gateway to Heaven is basically an extremely powerful missile that can take down everything in one hit. When the missiles completely ruin the empire Striker created, the followers felt devastated, but manage to survive the battle and become a part of Gargantia.
On the other hand, Chamber was awesome and decides to sacrifice his own life to get rid of Striker once for all while letting Ledo continue living life on earth. While his reasons are understandable since Ledo has a future waiting for him (like reuniting with Amy) while Chamber doesn’t since he cannot return to the Galactic Alliance. Not only that, the influence Ledo had regarding the squidwhales basically defeats the purpose of his original mission. But at least now, Ledo has a nice story to tell to future generations on how he found and protected Gargantia. Not only that, he has a pet squirrel now, which is unnamed. Hopefully, this will mean that it can mate with Grace someday.
Final Thoughts
Compared to other works Urobuchi made, this show basically took a different direction. While it has huge robots, they were only a minor part of the show. Ledo learned that there is more to life than just war and fighting. This cannot be done without Amy, who helps teach him the ways of life on earth. Of course, other people also helped too along with the video that shows the extremes of both sides (Galactic Alliance vs Hideauze). In the last battle, this is meant to resolve the problems from the two extremes so everyone can live in harmony.
Overall, while there are many things unexplored in the world of Gargantia, this show is very enjoyable. Although it’s light on the mecha action, it’s just interesting to see how Ledo changed throughout the show while Chamber guides him so he can live life without relying on him while facing problems along the way that splits Gargantia. Most importantly, this show also reinforces the idea that everyone is there to help each other. Hopefully with the spinoffs and an OVA in the future, hopefully we learn more about this world also, Ledo’s life after he is relieved from his duty.
Overall Rating: 9/10, A, Very Good
Now we just have to wait and see what will be the focus of the OVA. I heard of a younger Ridget…:|
There are two of them, which makes the content possibility somewhat interesting. I think it will probably be more on backstory on some of the characters on Gargantia to add finishing touches to the story.
