Anime Weekly – Episode 1 – Introduction, CISPA is Back, Gargantia 3, Photo Kano 3

Welcome to the first episode of Anime Weekly. In place of some episodic reviews, I will now do it in a form of a podcast.  Perhaps some people would rather listen to an audio review rather than reading paragraphs of text. Because Grad School is on the horizon, I’m trying this to reduce the amount of episodic reviews I do while sharing my thoughts.

In Anime Weekly, I will share some interesting news regarding Anime and share some impressions of shows that are not worth writing a post about.

So let’s don’t waste any time and get started with some news.

CISPA

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act is the successor of Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect IP Act, which returned from the dead. It’s understandable why this bill got created due to recent cyber attacks. ON the other hand I got a feeling that congress shouldn’t be addressing cybersecurity. I’m not going to go and tell the bad effects it will have on the blogosphere, but basically every website will have to share information with the government, including misappropriation of intellectual property. Besides downloading fansubs, the government can catch you for watching Anime on Youtube or illegal streaming sites or view screenshots of the show and you can’t take action. Basically it’s big brother, now on the Internet. The bill is heading to the Senate today, so I urge you to call your senators if you live in the United States. Now let’s focus on the Anime I watched before today…

Photo Kano – 3

This is basically my guilty pleasure. However, I find the main lead, Ichiya very annoying. Compared to Amagami SS, he basically blackmailed Aki to have her picture taken in embarrassing positions wearing her swimsuit. It was unpleasant. However the thing that bothers me is his reactions to accidently groping Rina’s melons and apologizing for it when she doesn’t mind. Why is he so weak minded? I think this is the trend in most harems Anime these days. Oh well, at least Nodoka kissed him.

Gargantia – 3

After Chamber murdered all those people, I felt that he gone overboard and the reactions from Amy is an example of this when she calls Ledo an idiot. I don’t think Ledo understand that they don’t want bloodshed, but to at least get along with the pirates for their own good.  Bloodshed on Gargantia’s sake will make the pirates take aggressive action. This mistake usually gets repeated in history as it becomes personal.

In the end, I liked how Ledo and Chamber won back the confidence of the people after taking a less violent approach and even thrown the crazy pirate lady’s lobster mecha into pieces. Hopefully now that Ledo is talking to them in their native language, I think the relationship will improve.
