Sadly, the black smoke has come. Google decided to say “Sayanora” to Google Reader, a web application that allows people to subscribe and read people’s blogs through RSS feeds in one place. I think the decision is very idiotic and just will make people hate Google more, especially the crap they pulled with Google Images taking 60-80% of the traffic away from blogger’s websites.
Because I felt strongly about this issue, I decided to make another video podcast showing people how to use other applications to follow Anime Blogs. These solutions are Wordpess.com Reader, Feedly, Vienna (for Mac users) and RSS Bandit (for Windows users). I didn’t mention other clients since they cost money, but if you are using Reeder, they plan to make it Google Reader independent in the next update, so check out for that. So enjoy and feel free suggest other topics I should focus on in future podcasts. (Image Source)

at least we have time to recover, right? Not that I used it for much anyway
Hopefully, but I am still raging over their decision.
I only have two ways to keep track/add blogs: My Yahoo (Feed > copy link > My Yahoo > Content > Add RSS Feed), and RSS Feed Reader App that I added for Chrome. Pulls up a link to subscribe to the feed or comments, and I don’t even have to click the RSS link 😀 I tried Google Reader sometime last year, but not a lot, and haven’t used it in a while. So…sorry for those who used Google Reader, it obviously was used by a lot of people. Just not me D:
I used Google Reader web interface until they changed it in the past two years. After that, I started using Reeder, which requires a Google Reader account… but I’m pretty much screwed until the developers update the program. Still, shame on Google for closing such a good tool in exchange for a social network I barely use.
It really is not that big of a deal. Greader’s services don’t even go offline until sometime in the Summer (I forget when) and all you have to do is just grab a copy of the OPML, which syncs with just about any other feed reader application. I can already name six good ones right off the bat. I never did use it much anyway, so meh…
It stops on July 1st, but it’s not a big deal as I already have it imported and still waiting for Reeder to transition away from Google Reader. I don’t use it that much nowadays since it’s more convenient to read it from a RSS Reader program. However, one of the helpful things that Google Reader does is that you can sync your subscriptions so that you don’t have to subscribe to it on each device or computer you have while being able to read on the web. Now that is gone, it just makes things harder. Even so, I think there will be someone who will fill up that space, but it’s still pain in the butt.
Ever tried Feedly or Pulse? They both have mobile/web versions and nearly do the same thing as Google Reader. Although, for both, you can also import your Google Reader subscriptions, lol. Then their is always the FeedReader application that installs on your desktop (awesome one). I will agree that is sort of a pain though, since almost ever other service syncs with it. With that said, is feedbuner effected? It is also with Google, but I never used that much anyway either or never noticed…
I know about them and they can import the feeds easily if you sync them before the closure date. However, I don’t think Feedburner is affected yet, although it might get killed off someday… This is why I am starting to hate Google as their goal is possibly force everyone to use Google Plus, which I don’t particularly use hardly nowadays.
