Apparently, Iori hits a fever pitch and does the unthinkable. (Image Source)
I admit that this arc was an improvement over the digression stuff. With thoughts transmitting through all five member’s mind, it seemed very troublesome for the five even though it was proven useful in certain situations. The other four managed to deal with it except for Iori. Like you would expect, Iori became one of my least favorite characters in the show (yes, even worst than Aoki) as she acted like a total jerk. She not only turned down Taichi for no good reason, but another guy that asked her out. She did it in the same manner, but a lot harsher. Therefore, we got girls bullying her. What amazed me about this whole thing is that they took things to the extreme by hiring some delinquents to sabotage the Cultural Research Club’s presentation. Because of that, Iori wanted to kill that girl in one instance, which is the very definition of going over the top. Thankfully Inaba and Taichi were able to restrain her before it actually happened.
On the other hand, Iori is probably right about Inaba trying to force Taichi on her when she gave her the typical “the reason you suck” speech. As we know, she still suffers multiple personality disorder thanks to the multiple marriages her mother had. Because of that, it’s probably better for Taichi to just remain friends. Besides, I think Inaba suits Taichi more than Iori in my opinion. Not only that, it’s pretty darn obvious that she likes him as evidently shown in previous episodes.
As a whole, I think this arc fixed some unreserved feelings I had with the show even though it’s far from perfect. The drama is pretty good and had something going, but it is still a flawed execution. Things like body swapping, unleashing desires and digression only served the purpose of creating drama and fear rather than comedy. Not only that, every time a phenomenon happens, all the members try to act normal or just hide in fear. It basically drives Heartseed to troll harder, thus we end up having this cycle happen over and over. Despite this, I think this show deserves some kind reprieve thanks to the solid performance of this final arc.
Final Overall Rating: 8.4/10, B, Good
I’ll probably have to start reading the light novels. So many volumes are left…>_<
Yeah, probably the light novels have more, but I probably won’t touch them since I don’t know enough Japanese without having to look up words every so often, unless it’s already translated.
I heard they have the first 4 volumes translated already on BT. I’m not sure about the rest though.
I feel like these four Michi Random episodes feel like a total disconnect from the previous episodes. The concept that Iori had been wearing “fake masks of personalities and expressions” had already been initiated in the very early episodes, it feel like that particular theme had been ignored for a long time, before actually bringing it out again all of a sudden. It’s kinda awkward, lol.
I can understand as she suddenly changed in a very short period of time and they haven’t really touched it after the first arc, which is kind of strange. It seemed that other things overshadowed it, but it’s something I will mention in my review.
