After the Wolkenritter retreated in the last episode after underestimating Nanoha’s and Fate’s new power, we get to hear more back story regarding Hayate and the Book of Darkness.
Believe it or not, it’s heartwarming to see how Hayate manages to make the servants that came from the Book of Darkness from being a bunch of cold-hearted people to a caring family. At first, they seemed rather lifeless and excepted to serve their master. However, Hayate’s kindness influenced them in a positive way. She pretty much acts like a mother who cooks for them and even buys them clothes. In turn, they started having emotions as well, which can be viewed as a good thing as they will be less likely to carry out evil. Sadly, things cannot stay the same, especially when you have an evil book that crave for more power and slowly eats away at Hayate.
While Hayate’s kindness caused them to forget about the evil book’s intensions, I kind of understand why they go out of the way to fill the pages against her will. The problem is that she doesn’t know what the Book of Darkness does except for providing servants to keep her company. Because of the four witnessed a different attitude than what they expected from their master, it eventually led them to take despite measures to keep the book from completely consuming Hayate. It’s kind of heartbreaking since there is no known way to completely break the strong hold the book has on her. Maybe we will find out towards the end.
From the look of things, it seems that we are in for another confrontation as Wolkenritter struggles to hold back the book’s impact from draining Hayate’s lifeforce that will ultimately result in another confrontation with Nanoha and Fate again. Needless to say, Nanoha finally finds out about Hayate as she became one of Suzuka friend’s without knowing that this girl is the owner of the book. In addition, we are introduced to two cat girl familiars, one of them lovey-dovey over Chrono and want a piece of Yuuno as well. I thought it was hilarious, although both of them might have gotten scared for life now.
