This almost felt like a date, but it isn’t one.
Since the show’s inception, we have run into several characters that contributed some parts to the overall mystery. However, the way the producers approach this one is rather interesting since the focus is on Eru and Houtarou exclusively while they solve a mystery. The way they approached it was interesting as both worked on coming up a theory over the announcement made over the loudspeaker. From the looks of their expressions, it appears that they were having fun.
While the mystery was somewhat interesting, I felt that it’s not the important part of the episode. I think the engagement between the two was the most interesting aspect as both worked on a viable conclusion. In addition, it shows that Houtarou isn’t 100% perfect with his reasoning as Eru pointed out some of the flaws. Still, it shows how much the two change throughout the series. For instance, Houtarou shredded his prospects of saving energy while Eru gains some of his deductive skills. At the end of the day, their entertainment surprisingly consisted of mostly truth as the police busted a money-counterfeiting group. From this, it proves that both of them can come up with a plausible theory with a student receiving a counterfeited bill from someone and realized that it’s fake after spending it.
With two episodes remaining, it’s apparent that they might not start a new mystery, but just tie some loose ends. From the looks of the episode preview, it looks rather lighthearted with Classic Literature Club celebrating the New Year. Then again, I might be proven wrong with another small mystery that they can solve in one episode. Even so, I wonder if Houtarou will confess his love to Eru or only treat her as a friend at the end of the show. If they don’t, I will become disappointed since they make a fine couple.
The interaction between the two was certainly the highlight of the episode.
Hopefully though, that whole “being correct” thing with the counterfeiting will stop Houtarou from side-stepping his ovious talent, even though his reasonings weren’t 100% perfect, that was certainly quite a feat for a first year in high school.
I agree and the interesting part is that the episode took place in the same room. But yes, it seems that he is doubting himself and it was pretty evident when he was dealing with the movie mystery back with Fuyumi. Still, I think it’s one of the qualities he won’t shred anytime soon.
Those facial expressions by Eru were wonderful. She can be so cute…*__*
Well, let’s try to enjoy these last episodes. Hyouka is about to end unfortunately…:(
Hopefully so… After it finished airing, I’m definitely going to miss it, especially Eru’s catchphrase.
Next week looks to be even more like a date. It makes my heart flutter in anticipation!!
Although this episode didn’t have so much going on in the foreground, it was interesting to see how this simple interaction just told so much to how this series has progressed since day one. I was also pretty amazed how they managed to get from that one message to a whole story of counterfeit bills. So interesting!
Yes, and the interaction was pretty effective on focusing primarily on the mystery. I think this has to do with the illustrations they used as a visual to explain the theory behind the mystery. It has been used in previous episodes, but it was very effective this time because the whole episode took place in one room.
Aside from that, I’m interested on how the next episode will go… Probably Houtarou and Eru will finally dive into a date?
