Ika Musume returns briefly for some more antics.
Part I – Attack of the Handheld Consoles
At this point, you should already know my stance on gaming as I play a lot of games on handheld gaming consoles opposed to smartphone games, which is trash anyways. However, that is beside the point since this sketch kind of relates what I do besides watching Anime. The Three Stooges basically breaks a handheld that looks similar to a Nintendo DS Lite and decides to make an indestructible Gameboy Advance. Yeah, it’s true that my DS Lite broke in a similar fashion several years ago because of the cracked hinge flaw. Still, an idea of a rugged gaming portable device is a great idea, but the way they implemented it is kind of foolish. They basically make the buttons hard to push that you hands will get blisters after playing it.
On the other hand, it’s kind of nice to see that the games paid homage to Super Mario Bros and Final Fantasy. I laughed when Eiko complained about the moves being the same, but having different names. This is true to a certain extent in most RPGs since more powerful versions of the moves exist (example: In Final Fantasy, there is Cure, Cura, Curaga and so on). I also laughed when the game said it’s a trial version and you can buy the full version. It kind of relates to the trend of mobile gaming and freemium games draining everyone’s pocket with horrible gameplay and rip-off in-app purchases like 500 yen for a bucket of berries.
Part II – Trying to act “Normal”
From Chizuru’s superhuman cooking skills and other things she shown in the previous seasons, it’s kind of silly to perceive her as an alien. Nevertheless, she shouldn’t try to act normal because everyone is going to notice. With all the banana-peel tripping and cooking stuff slowly, I think it’s blatantly obvious that something is wrong with her. Besides, there are crazier people out there like Sanae, so she doesn’t need to worry. Even so, the way she wreaked havoc at the Lemon Stand from tripping on a banana peel and surviving it is quite a feat.
Part III – Hide Go Seek
Not much to say about this segment, although it’s kind of hilarious to hear Eiko and Chizuru insulting Ika while being worried about Takeru. Basically, the two were so good at hiding that nobody could find them until Chizuru took out the chicken for dinner.
Overall, it’s a sold OVA with a lot of comedic moments, although the last sketch felt kind of weak.
Overall Rating: 8.7/10, Very Good, B+
