This episode had a lot of good battles until Couver decided to butt in.
Compared to the warm welcome Millhiore, Éclair, Ricotta and Yukikaze gave last time, the action heats up. The way the episode played out is very similar to the second episode in the first season. It’s just interesting to see that Shinku’s older cousin, Nanami quickly learning how to use her powers (including the seal powers) even though she is not at the same level yet. Still, it looks like she is having a blast despite having a tie against her cousin.
Aside from that total knockout, it’s funny how Becky feels very reluctant to join while the two pressures her into it. Shortly after, Couver “steals” her and she ultimately decides to become the third hero, which is very ironic. I have to say, although the transformation scene looks like something from a magical girl show, it’s really screwed up. What were the producers smoking when they have tentacles injecting clothes on her? It looks so perverted that it makes all the fanservice in the show look like nothing! Other than that, her outfit looks awfully familiar to Tomoe Mami’s from Madoka Magica.
On the other front, I like how Couver’s Flytech Knights having a big advantage over the other two kingdoms. However, my only complaint is that they are unfairly powerful. Very few forces besides the elite knights can take them down with a single blow. This is mostly because the former is in the sky while the latter is on the ground, which makes it hard to launch an attack. Still, I think they will adapt like they did in the first season when Shinku turned the tables on Galette.
From the look of things, it might be interesting to see how Becky will change the tide of the war. Although she has an advantage of being able to fly, using her powers effectively is a different story. Perhaps she might experience more problems compared to Shinku and Nanami because of her inferiority complex. Sadly, I can’t get past that transformation scene at the end. Perhaps I will recover completely before next episode airs.
Also, the picture of Éclair as a child looked adorable and is a stark difference to her current self.
