I don’t know, but I haven’t had so much fun during a cultural festival episode.
After Oreki and his older sister told Fuyumi off for using the Classic Literature Club to finish off the movie, we enter another arc. Surprisingly, it’s not so much about mystery, but more on normal school life. Now we see Satoshi and Mayaka doing other things during the festival while Oreki and Eru look after the Classic Literature club. From this, I have a very good feeling that the creators want to develop the relationship between Eru and Oreki even further. This sounds good to me.
While the effort to reach the goal of selling 200 books begins, its fun to see Eru getting sidetracked at every possible moment. She ends up doing calligraphy on paper, winning some kind of card game and do a photo-shoot. The latter was fun since she looked so cute in all those outfits. Even so, this merely demonstrates how her curiosity gets her into trouble while Oreki bores himself with nobody buying. It’s so ironic to see him feel that way since he was a big supporter for energy conservation. Who knows? Probably he felt lonely because he misses Eru’s curious personality or something.
Overall, I think the focus on school life and less on mystery is a breath of fresh air considering that the last 11 episodes focused primarily on solving mysteries. Of course, I like the cosplay in the Manga club that Mayaka is a member of because it looked so life-like. Not only that, this make it seems like Kyoto Animation or someone on the staff is a big fan of Vocaloid since there were four people dressed up as them. On the other hand, it’s interesting to see Mayaka’s choice since old anime doesn’t get much attention these days. Regardless, I wonder what will happen next as the festival unfolds.
Oh, I cannot forget that Oreki’s sister finally gets some screen time after being mentioned briefly! Too bad it’s only a few minutes and we don’t see her face. At least we get some idea of her personality.
Why not showing his sister in face?! That’s such a shame…:(
Yeah, it’s kind of disappointing since I want to see how pretty she is. Then again, at least we know that she has long, brown hair and perhaps she might show up in the next episode or something.
I think Eru just has that effect…she’s always so good at stubbornly getting Houtarou to do what she wants, but then she gets completely sidetracked while trying to do something herself.
Houtarou’s sister gets some more screen time in the OVA, but quality is pretty awful and it only shows like the bottom half of her face.
Yeah, and this is what makes Eru a very enjoyable character. I just like her personality.
As for the OVA, I haven’t watched it because people said the quality is really awful. It’s kind of sad that they won’t show her face. Perhaps they want to protect or identity or something to keep the mysterious feeling? Who knows. :/
