Eru is a force nobody should mess around with as she almost got Oreki into that trap.
Compared to last time, this mystery wasn’t as good since it’s too obvious. Basically anyone can solve it within minutes. In this mystery, it appeared that Eru got angry over the teacher giving a range problem when he didn’t gone over it yet and started yelling at students. Apparently, the teacher mixed up the curriculum for a class because he mistaken a “d” to an “a,” thus causing it a big misunderstanding. While English-speaking countries won’t ever make this mistake, I can understand since Asian countries rarely use the Roman alphabet let alone lower case letters since the upper ones are easier to read. It’s like an American trying to decipher Hiragana for the first time and get confused in the process.
However, I think the focus in this episode is not about the mystery itself, but Eru’s romantic feelings towards Oreki. As you seen in previous episodes, he helped her solved many mysteries, most namely the one about her uncle. Since she was able to recall that moment, perhaps she wants to get closer to him. She shows this through her teasing by saying that she would rather save energy. For a minute, it seems like Oreki got his wish granted. Sadly, that isn’t the case and if he commits himself to her, you know that she will completely ruin his energy conservation and drag him to solve every mystery under the sun. Even so, the part where he is surrounded by mini version of Eru in his imagination was hilarious.
At this point, it seems that Hyouka is trying to get Eru with Oreki even though he is resisting a bit. Sure, having a really cute and smart girl like her is a blessing to many. For others, the curiosity will just completely drain anyone’s energy. Even so, I think he will stick around regardless because of his older sister’s obligation.
Hopefully they’ll stop with this romance to give us some serious mystery. It’s hard to blog it otherwise…:D
But I.can’t stop thinking about it!
I still think they need to work on the mysteries a bit more besides on Eru’s curiosity…
