Things get problematic as the situation between Shinchiro and everyone else gets tense. In short, poo has definitely hit the fan.
With the past few episodes, it seemed that Aiko also knew Shinchiro for a long time and started to develop feelings for him. It’s subtly noticeable in Episode 4 where she liked the sweater that he picked out of nowhere. In addition, she checks the size of the sweater she’s kitting on him and refused to do it on his friend, Miyokichi who has a crush on her. It’s apparent that things aren’t going to end well as Shinchiro only views her as his friend, not a romantic interest. Even if she desperately tried, he’s fixated on Noe and deep inside, Hiromi.
As Hiromi went on the first date with Jun, something about their relationship felt empty. When he takes her to the movies, there was no instance where they blushed or felt embarrassed. Everything between them just felt emotionless. Even after they part their ways, everything stayed the same. This is apparent because neither of them really had any interest for each other, but decided to go out anyway through Shinchiro’s request. Especially Hiromi because she likes Shinchiro instead but can’t through some circumstances regarding his mother.
For a while now, Shinchiro’s mother has been very hostile towards Hiromi. After he intervenes into their confrontation, Hiromi finally reveals why. She believes that his father might be her own, effectively making them half-siblings. Following this realization, it shocked me beyond belief since they were so close for a long period of time and didn’t make a big deal about it until now. This make me want to do a blood test on them to see if this claim is actually true. Either way, it’s definitely a big setback for him and things are going to go downhill from there.
In particular, this episode finally brings the wave of drama crashing down. Not only Shinchiro has to worry about Noe, but Miyokichi and Hiromi. Of course, the half-sibling thing makes it worse. Through the apparent catfight next episode (that incidentally inspired the one in Hanasaku Iroha) and Aiko’s despite attempt to stop him from going out with Noe, things have definitely got complicated. We just have to wait and see how everything will play out in the next episode.
