Oscar has some fun with Alice and Yune after finding some stuff in a storage room. At the same time, Claude departs to see an old client of his father’s.
Compared to the drama seen in the last episode, this had a mellow felling. Oscar finds a magic lantern and a phenakistoscope, which he wants to show. Alice comes over to watch the performance that he puts on using the magic lantern with Yune. The demonic images instantly scared the crap out of them. At the same time, it brought a lot of cute reactions. Also, they made their own discs for the phenakistoscope. I laughed at Oscar’s interpretation of Alice’s drawing of the dragon as a worm. From the look of the drawing, it seemed like she lacked artistic skills. In comparison, Yune’s animation of a cat looked nice and wasn’t surprising since she adores cats. When I watched the girls draw these frames, it gives a realization that we take hand drawn animation for granted considering that this is mostly done on the computer. Nonetheless, it was fascinating to see the girls witness the early ages of animation.
Meanwhile, Claude faces a challenge as one of his father’s old clients want a new sign similar to the old one. Apparently his father, Jean was highly regarded for his skills and the work he done in the gallery. Sadly, he never interacted with his son nor he taught him how to craft stuff before passing away since he was working hard. This makes the customer’s request extremely difficult, if not impossible to achieve since Claude doesn’t have any of his father’s talent. Even so, I think Claude can still do a good job even if it looks different. Maybe he could surpass his father if he puts a lot of effort into the design.
It was nice to see the different situations that Claude and Alice/Yune faced. Besides Camille, there is no doubt that his relations with his father contributed to his pessimistic outlook of life. Despite this, Yune words may have encouraged him to carry on the project and I’m interested on how this will play out. Furthermore, it was wonderful to see Alice starting to appreciate the Gallerie without realizing it. Perhaps her freedom alongside Oscar’s amazing skills had a positive impact on her and everyone seemed to enjoy her presence. Lastly, Yune and her older sister having fun through shadow puppets were very sweet. At the same time, it kind of felt melancholic and from the look of the next episode, we might learn a bit more about the sad past of her sister.
It was good to see Alice becoming a friend to the Galerie, instead of their enemy, as well as overcoming her natural selfishness to help the old lady.
Providing that Alice has the time to experience the outside world and her obsession for Yune allowed her to live the life that Camille couldn’t. While she was kind of a snob at first, Yune probably wore on her for the better. But still, she is still cute despite her over obsession over the Japanese culture.
