Since Yune’s arrival to her new home, she finally starts to adjust to the different customs and explore some parts of Paris with Claude.
As for breakfast, the food that Yune expects to eat is completely different. While some hot breakfast foods such as eggs, bacon, pancakes and French toast are common in western cultures, cold foods are mostly served through convenience. For her, this was different since she normally eats cooked foods like rice, miso soup and fried fish for breakfast. With the bread, cheese and coffee being served by the Oscar, Yune has to adjust and eat it even though she isn’t used to it. Even though she forces herself and saying it’s delicious when it’s not, her reaction was pretty cute. In the end though, she comes to love the taste of coffee and bread with some help.
Later, Claude takes Yune around Paris, does some food shopping at the Marchè and eventually eat dinner. When she walked around the market, she was so eager to learn every possible food that is in the market. In a way, she showed a lot of interest towards learning the French customs even though she is not used to them. Like the instance where she tried to eat the soup with the spoon instead of sipping it, she finds it difficult. But then again, at least she is putting effort into it. Hopefully with the help of Oscar and Claude, she will eventually get used these new routines and the culture so she can contribute more while enjoying herself in her new home.
As a whole, Yune is gradually getting used to life in France. Becoming accustomed to a new culture while it’s studying abroad or moving there is no easy task and for her, she made a lot of progress. In a way, her experiences shown in the first two episodes of Ikoku Meiro no Croisèe can compare to the first two episodes of Aria the Animation as Akari explores Neo-Venezia and getting used to operating a gondola. While the settings and stories are different, the development of the girls presents itself in a very smoothing fashion that gives a heart-warming effect on the audience. Of course, coupled with Yune’s incredibly cute appearance and reactions, she and Claude will come to respect each other’s cultures in an endearing manner.
I had to laugh when Oscar announced breakfast was done. That is how I eat breakfast, too: coffee and bread (bagel) with cheese spread on it. Bachelor-style! You just can’t beat that convenience.
I have to admit, I like cream cheese bagels, but most of the time I don’t eat breakfast since I have a hard time waking up and finding time to eat breakfast. It’s a very bad habit getting into since Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, which is primarily the reason I find myself hungry most of the time until Lunch.
D’awwww Yune I will admit I was going to drop this anime but after this episode I think I can sit back and watch this, well hopefully it stays fun.
Yeah, the development may be slow, but slice of life shows like these tend to be gradual in order to show the small details in life. For Yune, it will be a rather interesting and cute experience, but we’ll see.
