Some people in the aniblogosphre nickname the Pokémon after favorite Anime Characters, friends, etc. I have started to nickname some of the Pokémon in Pokémon Platinum, but not on a large scale until HeartGold. Since I have created my preliminary team in Pokemon White, I may as well explain some of the nicknames I picked for some of the Pokémon I use for competitive battling. (Image Source)
1. Sayaka (Miki) from Madoka Magica – Samurott (Female)
I have to admit, I like the water starters. I tend to choose them over the other starters (except for Bulbasaur, Chikorita and Torchic). When I chose Oshawott, this Pokémon basically fits Sayaka’s not because its blue, but she uses some type of sword when she fights against the witches. The horn on top of her head resembles a sword, which is great for physical attacks.
2. Kyubey from Madoka Magica – Espeon (Male)
Espeon is the closest Pokémon that resembles Kyubey even though he doesn’t have psychic powers. Like Kyubey, Espeon is very cute and has powerful Psychic abilities. He is also a Baton Passer, which allows me to pass Calm Mind to other Pokémon on my team. Unfortunately, Kyubey tends to faint rather frequently when a physical sweeper comes in and use a powerful move. At least he doesn’t have many bodies to eat…
Also, he can create contracts with other female trainers to become magical girls… so beware!
3. Kyoko (Sakura) from Madoka Magica – Lucario (Female)
While I don’t have a Tepig to resemble Kyoko’s eating habits, there is always a Pokémon that resembles her fighting spirit. Lucario is one of those Pokémon that fights for a certain reason. While all of her attacks are not physical, her special attacks (Aura Sphere, Shadow Ball, and Psychic) display her determination and strength. Not to mention, Lucario is in the same egg group as Samurott, so you know what this means… Pokémon Yuri?
4. Madoka (Kaname) from Madoka Magica – Vaporeon (Female)
Although there aren’t that many good Pokémon that resembles Madoka’s appearance, her kind and cheerful personality resembles a Vaporeon. Vaporeon is a cute water dog that is powerful with full of stamina. Because of this, Madoka is very useful against physical sweepers and can take them out without any trouble.
She also has Wish to heal her HP, which is pretty ironic since all magical girls have them when they make a contract with Kyubey.
5. Rakka from Haibane Renmei – Altaria (Female)
Altaria may be the most underrated dragon Pokémon since Dragonite, Salamence and Garchomp overshadows her, she is the cutest out of the bunch. Considering Rakka’s cuteness and that crows take a big part of her dream, Altaria fits her kind personality. Even though Rakka does not have strong offenses, she has determination to overcome her difficulties to become victorious. This is shown through the Life Orb and one Dragon Dance that enables her to OHKO or 2HKO Pokémon without any troubles.
Great stories behind your pokemons’ nicknames =D Vaporeon is my most favorite pokemon so I loved seeing it in your team ^^ I thought you would go for a full Madoka Magica team but you’ve got Rakka =P (what’s your sixth pokemon going to be?)
I was thinking of doing an anime themed team of pokemon…the main problem is that I’ve never nicknamed pokemon and I can’t change the names of most of my good pokemon since they’re all from old games (and it’s a drag raising up new ones). But I might just raise up a brand new team just for that XD
