In the pursuit of Aoi-chan to have Nagisa accept his crossdressing lifestyle, Misaki and Aoi-chan participates in a Beach Volleyball Tournament… However, for Usui… he has other reasons to participate in the tournament.
Honestly, there wasn’t much to say about the Volleyball match since the Aoi-Misaki pair pretty much scared off every opponent they faced. However, they had a hard time with Usui since he is good at practically everything, including beach volleyball. Usui was practically kicking their asses until the big accident that resulted in Aoi and Misaki winning the final round.
Taming of the Tsundere…
However, the volleyball match is not the very important thing of the whole episode. As you recall in the last episode, there was one incident in the forest when Misaki warms up a bit to Usui. Since he is on the opposing team, Misaki feels conflicted. She thinks that Usui is annoying, but in her heart, he is a decent guy who saves her from the stickiest situations. The conflicted Misaki eventually yells out of the blue thinking that Usui is playing to become her enemy. Who wouldn’t feel that way, especially when you are a tsundere?
Like with all typical tsunderes, there is periods of them being in denial when it comes to a love of a certain person. Misaki is in no doubt a tsundere when it comes to Usui, but at the same time, the coldness (or as some say, melting of the “Ice Queen”) towards Usui is melting drastically. The events from last episode and Usui saving Misaki from landing on the pole have made her realize that she has romantic feelings for him. Maybe not as fast like the moeblob tsundere, Makoto from Kanon, but its still good.
In the end, Usui participated because he didn’t want to see Misaki become Beach Princess, wear things that guys like and take pictures of her. Not surprising because he seems to be protective for her no matter what. They almost kissed, but it was a big fake because of the fireworks… Maybe they are saving it for the finale.
The gradual warming up of Misaki understanding her feelings is what I like about her the most compared to the generic tsunderes out there. She has a lot a spunk, but Usui is doing a good job in taming her.
Last Remarks
As I predicted Aoi-chan crossdresses again and becomes this years Beach Princess… Figures.
In the end, this episode was rather enjoyable… and it kinda reminds me that we are on last third of the summer. Like I said in my K-ON!! Episode 13 post, summer sure goes by very quickly when you are having fun. For me, I have spent way too much time on the computer. I need to beat some video games or do something fun before the summer ends. After September 1st, I will be in college again working my butt off again.
