Episode 4 mainly focuses more on Noel, the only character that isn’t a carbon copy from you know what and actually…
Noel and Kanata goes on a adventure to gather supplies and also get parts for the tank. They stop by a shop owned by Naomi where Kanata starts to get fascinated on a glass Dolphins, which apparently doesn’t exist anymore… What? No more Dolphins? Oh yeah, the war wiped everything in the sea… duh… They gather more supplies when this boy knocks into Noel. Yumina came over and apologizes and finds out that Kanata have gotten over her sickness. Noel offers him a hand, but he slaps her and calling Noel and Kanata a “Murderer” and thinking that all soldiers are the same.
It seems that this boy have some kind of post-dramatic stress syndrome because the way he acts since he lost his parents and now he is orphaned… most people would understand that, it’s very difficult for a person to get out of that condition once it happens and believe me, nobody wants it because it brings alot of suffering…
After that incident, Noel drives to the glass factory where they make glass items. While Noel was talking to the guy about the lens, Kanata bumps into something, which caught their attention. The woman named Maria tells who Carl is, which he is a artisan which have a title, but he says he doesn’t deserve it since he can’t create the lens properly. We can’t blame him because it must be very difficult to replicate the lens since they are doing it manually. It does take alot of trial and error just to make it right.
Noel mentions about machines, which she likes them, but not when they hurt people, which is scary… In reality, however… Tanks don’t kill people, the people that’s using them do. If machines were evil, then we have Skynet eliminating the human population… just kidding.
The same thing applies to Kanata playing, Carl says something that gives her some kind of confidence of not forcing the noise out of the horn, but let it play. She does and it actually sounds alot better than before… and it only took four episodes to do that! Wow! Also, Noel installs the lens that she received and it actually worked miraculously… and the first time we see Noel smiled.
Noel as seen in this episode or earlier episodes vastly resembles Nagato Yuki than Tainaka Ritsu… Probably because Ricchan didn’t make the cut or killed in action, perhaps? Don’t mind me, Noel is a very intelligent girl and no wonder she could repair the broken tank to be something functional… kinda.
Overall, this was a great episode and seems to get better with every episode with them not going overboard on the moe (or no moe at all)… I currently like the plot/character/setting development they are showing so far to be sure that we are not becoming disappointed by it.
Maybe Kanata’s horn playing signified something that will happen later on… perhaps…
