Episode 7 is a filler, obviously, but unlike all fillers which are highly repetitive in nature, this one is actually good… and also have good comedy values as well.
In this episode, Nagi locks herself in the closet because of something Jin did that made her not to forgive him.
Synopsis
Nagi locks herself in the closet since Jin did something horrible to. Jin calls Akiba for his help. Meanwhile, Unable to get her out the closet, Tsugumi, Zange-chan, and others tried but failed. Akiba arrives at the house with copies of Magical Girl Loliko in the bag and Jin and Akiba run and hug each other with tears after waiting so long. Daitesu asks what happened and Jin explains that he found a show with cute kittens and took the tape that wasn’t blank which Nagi haven’t seen yet and got angry and locks herself in the closet.
After explaining, he explains how he got the copy of the anime and then gives it to Jin. It was a Blu-ray disc since it gives the best resolution and picture and yells “It’s a Sony!”, but unable to play it since Jin does not have a Blu-ray Player. Then, Akiba took out the video and Jin puts it in front of the closet door. Nagi took it and then throws it back since she doesn’t know what it is. Then, Akiba reveals that it’s a Beta tape and everyone starts asking what is a “Beta.” Then, he says “It’s a Sony!” in a serious tone.
After everyone left, Jin apologizes in front of the door and then Nagi with food comes into the room and sees him apologizes and she finally accepts it.
Ending Credits is Nagi’s favorite anime playing, Magical Girl Loliko.
Thoughts
This episode is actually really funny and enjoyable with Zange-chan trying to do something risky and also Akiba bringing a Blu-Ray and Beta video of Nagi’s favorite anime which they can’t play unfortunately.
Akiba shouting “It’s a Sony” is probably the most rememberable scenes in the whole series… just watch the progression:
Blu-ray as you all know is the next generation format that will give you crisp 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby Digtal Surround Sound… That sounds awesome, especially since Playstation 3 Slim is only $299 dollars and is the cheapest, full featured and upgradable Blu-ray player out there… Too bad Anime haven’t caught up with the releases on Blu-ray discs in Region 1, but Blu-ray seems to have caught on alot since K-ON! sold alot of copies of Volume one alone, about 33,000 copies… Maybe anime companies should start taking avantage of the Blu-ray format.
Not only that, K-ON! had a reference to Blu-ray when Ritsu was showing Mio a scary movie on Blu-ray.
The famous saying said in clear English by Akiba… When you see a Sony product in an anime, you have to yell, “It’s a Sony!” No buts about it.
By the way, Jin should really update his technology there… VHS have been long obsolete by DVD and Blu-ray.
Beta, as you all know was the competitor to the VHS and is supposed to be the superior format, but faded away after VHS rise in popularity. Beta is still used by professionals despite that.
Verdict
8.6/10
LOL! Although it hasn’t even been a year since this episode aired, it’s so damn memorable for the meme. Zange is awesome, all the Kannagi girls are awesome.
Jin and Akiba XD
It’s a sony! Still classic. =DMNP
