Summary
Tomoya and Ushio is on a train ride to their destination. Ushio wants to play with him, but he tells her to play with Sanae-san. Ushio tells him what they do to play with her. Meanwhile, the young boy was making a disturbance and Tomoya yells at the boy’s parent. Then after he yelled, Ushio rans off.
When she got out the bathroom, Tomoya tells her that she should have reminded him before going. Then he notice that Ushio was crying and asks her if she was. She refuses to tell and that Sanae-san told her that she only could cry in the bathroom.
Afterwards, they arrived at the train station and he asks her if she wanted a toy. Then, they went into the shop and Tomoya picks up a toy robot and asks if it was okay. She said okay.
As they continued on their journey to their destination, Tomoya said to Ushio that she shouldn’t force herself to play with it and said that she should have picked a girlier toy, but she shook her head and said that she wanted it because she liked it.
At night, they stayed over night at a inn. Ushio wakes out of bed to go bathroom. Tomoya wakes up and notices her leaving. After that, he went back to sleep but woke up and assisted her. After she went, she bragged about going to bathroom to Tomoya. As they head back to the room, Ushio pointed to something outside of the window. Tomoya explains that it was a firefly and Ushio said that it was the first time she saw one.
They finally arrived to their destination and he tells her not to fall asleep as they will be walking alot.
They arrive at the very familiar field and Tomoya lets Ushio to play in the field. He watches her while she playing in the field.
After a while…
Ushio wakes up Tomoya and he asks whats wrong and she said that she lost the toy robot. They go out and find it and after a while, he tells her to give up and that he would buy another toy. She refuses because it was important to her. Tomoya goes back to his spot and after looking at her looking for the toy sparked a memory from his childhood. After realizing it, he tells Ushio to stay put for awhile and that he was going to take a walk.
He walks around and he realized that he remember this place. He arrives at a ledge that looked out to the ocean, he found his grandmother, Okazaki Shino, the mother of Okazaki Naoyuki, Tomoya’s father. She said that she was waiting for Tomoya to come at Sanae’s request. Afterwards, she tells Tomoya a story about his father and how he sacrificed everything just to raise him after his mother’s death. After he finish hearing that story, he said that his father wasn’t bad and that he was worse than him and that he was a weak and pathetic father. Shino then said that his father was also weak and pathetic, but still did his best as a father to raise him although he had many failures. Tomoya agrees with her and she thanks him. Afterwards, he shows Shino his daughter, Ushio.
Tomoya goes into the field and he asks her if she was searching for the toy in the field. She nodded. He tells her that he can’t do anything about it and that he will buy another one. She becomes disappointed because it was the first toy that her father bought her. Then, Tomoya apologizes to Ushio and asks her if it’s alright to stay with her, and she agreed. She asks if she could let out her feelings and he agreed and they started crying with Ushio in Tomoya’s arm.
Afterwards, on a train ride back home, Tomoya tells Ushio about his wife. While telling, he cried because it reminded him of his wife, Nagisa. Afterwards, he continued to tell more about her after wiping the tears off. He tells her that he will protect the precious thing that he have left, his daughter, Ushio.
Thoughts
It was a very touching episode, and nearly made me shed tears (although it couldn’t come out) on how Ushio ackowleges Tomoya as her father. Of course, Tomoya nearly went on the same path as his father, but Shino stopped that from going any father after telling him his father’s story. Best episode so far… even though I haven’t watch the others yet. =p
