Shining Hearts ~Shiawase no Pan~ – Episode 1 – They Should Have Called it “Shining Bread”

April 14, 2012 by Chikorita157 4 Comments
Although the girls look cute, there is not much substance beyond that.

Like it says on the tin, the first episode has a lot of bread and happiness…

Before watching this, I expected some excitement as seen when I watched the first episode of Tears to Tiara. With that, I have the same expectations since Shining Hearts is a Japanese RPG part of the Shining series produced by Sega. When I watched the first few minutes of the first episode, I suddenly become disappointed.

This is what the episode consists of... delivering bread and smiling!

The first episode consists our male lead named Rick and his harem of three girls named Airy Ardet, Neris Filiam, and Amil Manaflare. Although the girls are really cute and cheerful, there isn’t much I can say about them. It seems like they don’t have much personality aside from being happy while delivering bread. Even so, I think their personalities will develop more as the episodes goes on and not stay like this forever.

Cat girls and elves also exists too... in addition to humans.

Aside from the characters, there is not much to say except for the bread delivering, the four having a picnic and returning the Slyph back to its rightful owner. It literally put me to sleep even though the animation looks gorgeous. On the other hand, the red moon as seen in the beginning and the end indicates some kind of conflict that will arise. With that, I don’t think it’s right to write off the show at this moment despite having low expectations. They might surprise us with something exciting besides baking bread.

Yep. I think it’s official, in that I think I’m the only one who actually enjoyed the episode, though I don’t know, I thought the animation and visuals were kind of mediocre. Though I mainly enjoyed it because I was laughing at it, and I happened to be eating while watching it…

The animation looks good, but I don’t know… Even so, I can’t really judge the story since I have never played the actual game, which is only in Japanese. Probably people that played the game would enjoy it a bit more than those who are watching it for the first time.

But still, I still have faith that this show can turn itself around in the next two or three episodes.

Is this really an action show like it’s tagged as on the MAL or wikipedia page? There was 0 action in the entire episode; it just looks like a boring slice of life about boring people baking and selling bread.

If you see what I written, it’s obvious that there is nothing exciting in the first episode. Still, it’s the beginnging so it could change in the future.
