My name is James and I am an American-Asian that enjoys Anime and other related entertainment. Currently, I am a student at NJIT as a Management Information Systems major. Besides from blogging, I spend most of my time socializing on the internet namely AnimeSuki, other Anime Blogs, Melative and XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol). Besides from socializing, I do some programing (namely MAL Client OS X and Melative Library), gaming, playing musical instruments and studying. I am very nice and open minded most of the time, except when my ego gets in the way. As a result, I end up having to apologize for making bad remarks.

Anime is my main entertainment since childhood. From the two classics from Studio Gibli, Pokemon, DragonBall Z and Sailor Moon, it got me hooked on it ever since. Although distracted during my high school years, in my college years, what made me rediscovered Anime is the anime called “The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.” which is the most enjoyable and interesting anime than what I seen in the Pokemon anime. The trend goes on with Lucky Star… Soon, I was getting hooked with Key/VisualArts works, Kanon, Clannad and soon Air (plus the Clannad Visual Novel) and I was amazed on how great the story is. From this day forward, I never stopped watching Anime and manage to find stuff that interest me on the fly.

I focus mainly on my blog is thoughts about Anime and opinions/editorials varying from the Anime Industry as a whole or something specific in a Anime Series or its related materials such as manga, light and visual novels. Although my grammar may not be the greatest, my main objective besides blogging on what I enjoy is to improve my grammar and writing. Writing I have admit is not the strongest skill because of what happened in Elementary school. It will take some time, but I know I can do it.

Why the username Chikorita157?

Well, during the Pokemon hype, I used this name ever since I switch my ISP providers in early 2000. It wasn’t until late 2004 that I finally got broadband internet.

Actually, I’m too lazy to think of another name…

What do you spend doing on your free time after you finish your college work?

I usually spend time watching some episodes of Anime, playing video games, reading the latest technology news (mostly Apple stuff though) and current events and also participate in the online community (via Twitter and also on AnimeSuki forums)… I also play visual novels if I feel up to it (although I hate dirty scenes.) You can say I spend way too much time on my Macbook Pro errr… computer.

Why are you using a Mac? I thought you can’t watch Anime or play all those visual novels on it?

Thats untrue… you see… I have been using Macs since I got my first Apple laptop back in December of 2006 and I have been loving it since it rarely gave me any problems (well, except when I’m running Windows of course along with Kubuntu Linux). Besides, most companies like Dell and HP make poor quality computers which aren’t meant for longterm use anyway and I use and depend on my computer way too much.

While I do like Linux, there are limitations. Linux lacks Office (although I can use OpenOffice), Photoshop, any Steam games and Garageband. In addition, I invested a good sum of my money into Mac OS X programs and it would be a waste to leave them behind. Lastly, I don’t really find a reason to switch considering that you can run port any Linux program to Mac OS X  and Mac OS X is 100% Unix Certified.

I also name my Macs after my favorite anime characters… such as Fujibashi Kyou Nanoha Takamachi for my Unibody Macbook Pro (the one pictured above) and Tohno Minagi for my older Macbook Pro (Late 2006).

Are you really Asian or are you one of those Weeaboo/Wapanese posers?

Actually I am and this photo is proof. Why would I lie about my nationality? (I also mentioned my nationality above)

Do you have a preference for Dub vs Subs?

Not really. If there is a dub option, I will use that as a first resort, but I have no specific preference since I watch new anime with subs anyways, so I don’t see it as a big deal. However, sub-only releases on anime I already watched is on low priority of obtaining since my funds are limited and I wanted to use it to buy licensed series I’m interested in, but haven’t watched yet. (Examples: sola, Hayate no Gotoku First Season, Kannagi, Nanoha and Otoboku)

Why aren’t you updating MyAnimeList anymore?

This and the MyAnimeList APIs and Layout isn’t that great. However, it didn’t stop me from developing the MAL Clients I have been working on for the past few months.

When did you get so interested in Key/Visualarts all the sudden?

Well, being out of the Anime world for nearly 4-6 years… I was out of it since I went back to watching in late 2008 when I was sick of hearing bad news about the economy and such and I have alot more freetime in college than I thought. I start watching stuff like Haruhi and Lucky Star… and in Lucky Star, they have Konata in one episode coming in school late because she was taken by a girl who stole taiyaki from a taiyaki stand (you know who, Uguu~). After looking it up, it was from a anime from Kanon… I was reluctant at first because I thought the anime would have something dirty… but after looking at one episode of Kanon (2006)…. I was wrong and turned out to be one of the best anime I watched at the time… then I started to get hooked on Clannad soon after and I see myself watching the Clannad anime series… and then Air…

Yes, I have become a Key fanboy (or kagikko in Japanese)…. and I’ll admit that. =p and Lucky Star is a gateway drug to other anime…

If you like Haruhi, are you a Haruhiist?

No, I don’t worship Suzumiya Haruhi nor think it’s the greatest thing on this earth… especially since Endless Eight sucked so much (besides from the animation though, although most people neglect that fact since Endless Eight repeated too much).

Besides, Kanon (2006) is better than Suzumiya Haruhi in Animation and Story.

If you still play the Pokemon games, why did you gave up on the Pokemon Anime?

I got lazy… Actually the reason is that I have become increasingly busy in my last year of high school and I feel behind in so much of the Diamond and Pearl anime that I gave up… Also there is way too many fillers and the new English voice actors suck badly… and I already discovered better anime now, so I don’t see the point ever going back and watching 100+ episodes.

Believe me, the games are so much better than the anime… they are a night and day difference.

So, can I call you a Otaku then?

Absolutely not… and I don’t like people who say things like that!

And misusing that term might get you burned… so this blog will not mention the word “Otaku,” except this page.
