Summer Vacation Marathon Plans

As you have known for a while, a vacation was in the works for a while now. The vacation will last for at least two weeks to Minnesota, Wisconsin and Chicago. Since tethering is out of the question, I’m deciding to marathon few Anime series to keep the boredom to a minimum. I will be watching three series that previously aired last season, which I did not get a chance to watch with the addition of two movies, full with a short synopsis from Melative. (Image Source)

Denpa Onna (2011-04-14)

Denpa Onna
Description

The story revolves around a highschool boy named Niwa Makoto. He lives with his aunt's family since his parents are away on business. It is there where he meets his mysterious cousin of the same age Touwa Erio - who happens to tie a futon mattress around her upper body and is a self-proclaimed alien. Her staple food is pizza. Erio had been missing for half a year and was found floating in the sea. She doesn't remember anything about what happened during that period of time, but she began to think that it was the act of an alien and wanders the neighbourhood wrapped in the futon.

I know, I have started watching the first episode and it seemed pretty decent. Sadly, I never found the time to watch it since my plate was full and I wasting my time watching Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai. With 11 episodes left and cuteness from Erio, this show won’t be difficult to marathon.

Dog Days (2011-04-02)

Dog Days
Description

In the land of Fronaldo, the Republic of Biscotti has been aggressively attacked by the Lion Kingdom of Galette. Facing potential defeat, Princess Millhiore summons a hero who can save the country. What she gets is Izumi Shinku, a middle-school boy from Japan. Awaiting him in Fronaldo is the task of becoming hero enough to defeat his enemies while learning the peculiar rules of battle in this strange new world.

Genre: fantasy

I know, this show is pretty mediocre… But it looks pretty fun since it has a lot of well-known voice actors working on this. Not to mention, mindless entertainment is good way to melt the boredom away.

Ano Hana (2011-04-14)

Ano Hana
Description

Six childhood friends grew apart in high school. One of them is Jintan, now a shut-in. He gets a request to fulfill a wish for Menma, the only one of their friends to have stayed the same over the years. In order to grant her wish, he will have to find and reunite their old friends.

I heard good things about this show with the drama that I was considering to watch it. Since the melodrama is pretty hardcore, I was convinced that I should not marathon this, but spread it apart so I won’t get an emotional breakdown in one blow.

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (movie) (2010-01-23)

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (movie)
Description

Takamachi Nanoha is a normal fourth-grader who feels a little useless and out-of-place with no purpose. Then one day, she saves a ferret, who turns out to be a mage from another planet who came to this planet to search for the jewl seeds. Nanoha agrees to help, but this task gets complicated when another girl arrives to steal them.

Genre: action, magic
Theme: magical girl
Duration: 130m

I’m almost finished with the first season, so I don’t see why not watch the movie. The problem with the television series is that the animation was pretty lackluster despite the interesting story.  The movie is essentially an abridged version with some changes and better animation, so the plot won’t be too different. Nevertheless, we will get to see Nanoha befriend Fate again in a more epic battle.

Beyond the Clouds (2004.11.20)

Beyond the Clouds
Description

The Place Promised in Our Early Days takes place in Japan during the late 1990s in an alternate timeline. Though it is not directly explained in the film, the world in the anime apparently diverges from Japan's in the decades following World War II. In 1974, Japan underwent the Separation: the southern part, including the main islands of Honshū and Kyūshū, were occupied by the United States, while the northern island, Hokkaidō (or Ezo, as it is called in the anime), was occupied by the "Union" (presumably referring to the Soviet Union). Also in that same year, the Union began the construction of a strange tower on Hokkaido designed by a scientist named Ekusun Tsukinoe. On a clear day, the incredible height of the tower makes it visible from as far away as Tokyo.

By the 1990s when the story begins, the U.S. occupation of southern Japan has ended, and the two nations have formed a pact called the Alliance. Hokkaido remains under the control of the Union; contact between the North and the South is all but suspended; and border clashes are common. An underground group committed to reunifying Japan known as the Uilta Liberation Front exists in the South. Covertly supported by some Alliance government officials, it makes incursions into and executes attacks on Union territory.

Genre: Drama, Military, Romance, Science Fiction
Country: Japan
Duration: 91 mins
Language: Japanese
Length: 1

This will the second Makoto Shinkai movie I will be watching. I was planning to watch this last year and review it, but I got sidetracked with Fall anime and schoolwork that I didn’t get a chance.

How will this work?

Since I have a power inverter, I will be plugging my Macbook Pro and watching my shows on the computer. Once I finish, I will take a break and then write a review. Once I connect to the hotel’s wireless internet, I will proofread and then publish the review on the blog. In some cases, I will just transfer my review to my iPhone and then paste it into WordPress for iOS to publish.

Once I get to the destination, activity should return back to normal. Additionally, my blogging of Hanasaku Iroha and Ikoku Meiro no Croisèe won’t be interrupted and impressions post for these series will be published on time. I will reveal more details about the trip once Thursday comes around.

The Nanoha movie was pretty good, considering that it’s basically a recap.
