Kanon is the ultimate “Sad girls in the snow” show…

Well, lately, I have been so concentrated on Clannad so much that I never posted any thoughts on all these Kanon episodes… So… lets do it, shall we?

Synopsis

Yuuichi arrives at a town he visited 7 years ago and meets Nayuki, Yuichi’s cousin outside the station. Nayuki asks Yuuichi if he remembered his name. Yuuichi asks her if she remembered her name, and she answered correctly. Yuuichi guesses and he got those guesses all wrong and then complains about being cold. Then he finally says Nayuki’s name.

Next day, Nayuki asks where is her uniform. After searching, she finally finds it and changes into her uniform and goes off to track practice.

Before she leaves, Yuuichi asks Nayuki to have a tour around the town and she agrees.

While Nayuki is at practice, Akiko and Yuuichi shovels the snow. Unlike Yuuichi, Akiko shovels the snow alot faster than he did. After shoveling the snow, he takes a break after the exhausting shoveling of the snow.

Afterwards, Nayuki comes back from practice and shows him around town as promised.

While taking a tour in town, they ran into Kaori Misaka (note the last name… it’s important later on) and Kitagawa, Nayuki’s classmates. After they introduced themselves, the left.

On the hill, they saw a baby fox and as always, Nayuki has a fondness for cute animals try to pet the baby fox, but ran away.

Then she tells Yuuichi that the foxes on that hill are special and that there is a lengend, but she forgot.

As they went back to town to get supplies for dinner, Yuuichi tells Nayuki that he doesn’t want to go into the shop because he is going to get lost. He stays outside of the store while she goes in.

Suddenly, a mysterious girl running with a bag bumps into Yuuichi, which is Ayu. Ayu grabs his hands and…

ran into the nearby cafe.

In the cafe, Ayu explains what happened. While she was ordering taiyaki from her favorite shop, she forgot the money, and a dog came which made her scared and run off. After he heard the story…

…he drags Ayu back to the taiyaki shop to have her applogize and pay for the bill with his money.

After apologizing, she started to eat it. Then, Yuuichi said it was fattening and he wants to watch her finish all of it. After Ayu’s response, then Yuuichi imatates Uguu~ and Ayu protested back at him for coping her. Then, they finally exchanged names… and they depart.

As always, Yuuichi forgot about Nayuki at the shop. After Yuuichi went back, Nayuki was waiting on the bench in front of the shop and calls him a “Liar.”

After Yuuichi apologized for hours, Nayuki finally accepts his apology for being late.

Then, with the collection of alarm clocks she have, she hands one to Yuuichi and they go to bed.

In a flashback, young Yuuichi and Nayuki went together to get supplies for dinner, Yuuichi tells Nayuki that he doesn’t want to go into the shop because he is going to get lost. He stays outside of the store while she goes in. Then, a mysterious crying girl bumps into Yuuichi. Yuuichi tries to help Ayu Ayu and after he realizes that people are watching them, he takes her hand and runs off together to a safe place.

OP and ED

Kanon (2006) have very good sounding opening and ending themes… both the OP/ED are sung by Ayana

The first episode of Kanon (2006) is… well… beautiful… It really captures the “sad girls in the snow” theme well (If you don’t know what it is, click on the link above to the MegaTokyo web comic)… and you can’t forget all those cute and moe catchphrases, uguu~.

With no prior knowledge of playing the game or the first animation, I have to say they done a pretty good job so far on this episode… and it gets better… and melancholic, so enjoy the happiness as you can!

Not to forget… Yuuichi looks almost like Kyon… although Kanon came out way before Suzumiya Haruhi.

This episode gets a 9.5/10
